It is raced with a crew of two and has evolved into a high performance racing dinghy with active fleets around the world. The Snipe class was the first at the Newport when the club was founded in 1936. The Snipe can effectively be sailed by people of all ages, skill and sizes. Prices of boats range used to new $800 - $10,000.

Briody Regatta for 2007 (2006 Results)

The Briody Memorial Snipe Regatta will be held August 18-19 at our own wonderful club. The Briody Memorial Regatta started in 1936 to honor untimely deceased Snipe sailor Francis M. Briody of Lockport, NY. For the past two decades the venue has been Newport YC. The Briody has become the best drawing regatta in Snipe District V, drawing sailors from Canada as well as the US. We expect boats from Canada, Michigan, Ohio and maybe Massachusetts. Unfortunately, these out-of-town hotshots usually trample us locals, but we learn a lot from them and have a great time. Contact the Regatta Chairman, Norm Dahl (585-872-5485), if you would like to help with the regatta. Download the regatta details in pdf format.
