Calendar and Events at NYC

In addition to the normal race schedule, Newport holds a series of annual events. These events are a great way to get to know the club and socialize with your fellow members. Click on the Month to see the detail on what items are scheduled

Launch Party

One of the first days of racing is celebrated by a pre-race breakfast much enjoyed by the soon cold sailors.

Open House

Open Houses are sponsored by the Membership Committee twice a year. These events give prospective members a chance to meet our members and learn about the club during an informal picnic. This is followed by an afternoon of sailing in different members boats.

The Cups and Flags Banquet

An annual affair in November. This event celebrates the top finishers in our sailing fleets and recognizes the exceptional volunteers of the Newport Yacht Club.

Spring/Fall Work Party

Members of the club have a chance to improve our facilities on these work days. Projects in the past have included work on the seawall, repairing docks, gardening, overhauling the committee and rescue boats, painting the club house and putting in the docks for the season. It is a great time to renew friendships after a long winter away from sailing.

Brown Jug Race

This race is held on Labor Day each year and is open to all Irondequoit Bay sailboats 23 feet and under. The race is hosted in alternate years by the Newport Yacht club and the Rochester Canoe club. The slower sailing classes start first, followed by the faster classes to allow everyone an equal chance to win.

Regattas

Each of the sailing fleets host a regatta every year. These are some of the best attended regattas in the area and draw top sailors from far away. In addition, the Club has sponsored the sailing events associated with the Empire State Games in 1998, the Sears Cup for Lightning in 2000, and will be hosting the Lightning Youth World competition in 2002.
