Newport Yacht Club, Saturday, 29 July 2006, 12:05 PM:
Forecast: Hazy and very humid. A slight chance of a thunderstorm. Southwest winds less than 10 knots becoming westerly. Predicted high 90°.
The dreaded and infamous west winds . . . we got to experience why, and I can now say I know what the west winds bring to Irondequoit Bay - Phew! What a workout! Definitely not a day of ease on the Bay!
Twelve boats turned out for the 70th Anniversary Regatta: 4 Lightnings, 4 Snipes, 2 Lasers, 1 Flying Dutchman, and a MacGregor 25. The wind was blustery, and highly variable. It was nothing for the flag at the north end of the club to be blowing one direction, and the flag by the lighthouse to be blowing in the opposite. With the high gusts of wind we had two capsizes for the day: Eric Schoenhardt in his Flying Dutchman and Dean Clayton in his laser. Both managed to right their boats and finish the race! We were able to get two races in, at the end of which most everyone had gotten a good workout!
The food was waiting and good! The fellowship was engaging and the entertainment to follow was great! What a wonderful thing it was to sit on the porch, feel the cool north thermal on your face (yes, it did finally come in along with a whopper thunderstorm!) and watch and feel the Lightning and thunder until you could not see the eastern shore for the rain! Our porch is a wonderful renovation to the club!
Today was the day for the Snipes! Congratulations to Matt Disch with his two bullets! Our thanks go to the race committee for their fine job under some of the most difficult conditions and thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate our 70th anniversary.

| Ties |
When there is a series tie between two or more boats, each boat's race score shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favor of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used. |
|
|
If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats' score in the next to last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores. |
